Most Japanese cooks rice using this I think.
(so, most Japanese cannot cook by pot)
As Japaneses people eat rice everyday, so it is usual to have rice cooker at home, but for whom foreign people who do not eat rice everyday, it may not necessary,
Some people use rice cooker not only to cook rice,but also other menu.
I cooked roasted beef and onsen tamago in one time by using rice cooker.
1. roasted beef
let the meat room temperature.
roast beef outside, on the frying pan.
next, put on soysauce, mirin, sake.,garlic, in the ziproc.
( salt and pepper and garlic, it is ok., whichever taste you like, it is ok)
put the roasted meat in the zip.
2 egg , let eggs room temoerature.
3 put on 70degrees warm water in the rice cooker,
put the meet (in the ziprock) and eggs in the rice cooker
keep 30-40 minuites , keep warm button , (not rice cook button)
put them out.
finish.
some people cook cakes ,etc...

but it need attention, some menu is not suit for rice cooker cooking.
