shiso

Shiso is one of common herb of summer in Japan.
There are two types of shiso, red and green.

Red shiso, we use to color Umeboshi, pickled plum. It turns really red.

Green shiso, we often use for cooking.
I used this 'shiso  to kyabetsu no shio momi'   salted cabbage and shiso.

I made ama rakkyo. Sweet rakkyo .
I pickeled this by salt for two weeks, and after that, I pickeled this with suger, water, honey.
Ama rakkyo , we eat with currey rice.

salted rakkyo 500g>>>>>>>>1kg rakkyo and 75g salt and 400ml water, two weeks ago
vinegar 150ml
water 75ml
suger 20g
honey 50ml

pickle this  2weeks again, we can eat.

It is the rainy season in Japan.
Humid and hot day of June, like today, around 8 o'clock in the afternoon, we can see fireflies on the hill side stream. From my house, 10minuites drive.(this is my seacret place. we cannot find firefries easily  in the town.)

Today, I shaved 'kakigori' by home kakigori machine .
I used Ume sylope today.

This summer  we must save power ,air conditioner, so, I will make this more often than usual.

Kanda Myojin



Kanda Myojin is near Ochanomizu Sta.
This place is also easy to go from Akihabara.

May be  it is the reason... See 'EMA'
It is my first time to see MANGA  Anime character EMA.

And we can buy OMIKUJI (FORTUNE) by that machine  the shishi (LION) robot dansing and chose to us.


In front of Kanda myojin, we can drink traditional AMAZAKE.
We can find AMAZAKE KAKIGORI in the menu.

Sometimes we can find omikuji karakuri mashine  in Japan. I have seen several types, but I forgot where I saw that.

Panda Bread



After Pandas came to Ueno Zoo, there sold many Panda goods, Panda shaped foods, sweets.

So I felt like to bake Panda Bread... I baked today.. But I failed.
But, this tastes very very good.

Rakkyo



I bought  Rakkyo.
We often pickeled rakkyo with Japanease currey rice.

Pickele rakkyo is work of June.

First, peel the rakkyo and wash ,pour 20% salted hot water.
Keep in  clean bottle 2weeks at cool place.

After that, put off salt with water, and pickle again with sugar and vinegar.

I read wiki that I linked, but we do not eat rakkyo with sushi. I think it is mistaken.

Machida kotto ichi


 Antique market at Machida tenmanguu.
Every 1st day of the month ,except Jan.
From dawn to around  P.M. 2 o'clock.

Machida is about 30 min suburb from Shinjyuku sta. by odakyu line.

 Foreigners love to buy OBI, something made by woods, etc...

 Near the place of machida tenmanguu, there is a mega size 100yen shop building, so it may be  fun to go shopping.


There are some antique markets around Tokyo.
Tokyo forum  near GINZA 1st and 3rd Sunday
  Yamato kottou ichi   every 3rd suturday of the month  ( this is big)
 YOKOHAMA ARINA   twice in the year.
HEIWAJIMA

    etc......

I love to go machida compare to another places.
